Summer! Scholars. Skype?

Scholars,

I trust you are enjoying your summer so far. It’s hard to believe almost two weeks have passed.

As I was out and about today, I snapped a shot of… DECIMALS! And, of course, I have seen all kinds of angles because they are EVERYWHERE. I remember the challenge Markey offered the last week of school to keep an eye open for fractions… and other mathematical concepts. What kinds of things have you found?

I found a new website you might like. It features “engaging real-world math activities.” One of the activities is connected to the World Cup. What kind of math is connected to the World Cup?

Yummy Math

I am also trying to embrace Ms. Kraft’s reading challenge, as well. Right now, I’m reading a book called Shake Up Learning: Practical Ideas to Move Learning from Static to Dynamic. It is a text that inspired a workshop that I am working through, as well. It’s really interesting!

Also, don’t forget that I’d love to Skype with you, if you have time. Perhaps we could even do a “mystery Skype.” I’d love to try to guess where you are by following some clues. Send me an email if you’d like to connect.
