Diving into Division

The long-awaited division unit has arrived. One of our most desired skills is about to be mastered… with some scholarly effort, of course.

As we dove into division today, we began by learning the vocabulary, looking at a number of ways to represent an equation, and explored several ways to solve problems. We made connections to multiplication and fractions (which is an upcoming unit).

A handy resource for all math areas can be found at the following website. Math vocabulary and quick-reference strategy charts are available to help think about MANY math concepts, including division, in a number of ways.

We also discussed “the best figure of speech hands down: hyperbole”. Well, maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement, but that’s the point. Hyperbole is meant to be an exaggeration.
