Out of the Overflow…

In response to a proposal put forward by our very own Laetitia and Mina, the TASOK Elementary Student Council is sponsoring a NEEDS DRIVE for our friends at the Kimbondo Orphanage from April 30-May 11th.

Each grade had been challenge to donate a specific item to help meet the needs of the children who live at Kimbondo. For fourth grade, we have been asked to collect LOTIONS and/or CREAMS. Donations will be collected as part of admission to the Elementary Talent Show, as well as in the classroom.

Over the past few weeks, we have been talking a lot about being “bucket fillers” – finding ways to care for, encourage, notice, affirm, and acknowledge one another in simple, yet significant, ways. This is a mutualy benenficial process, as giving and encouraging not only brings joy to the recipient, but it also brings joy to the giver.

In the classroom, we have made mini “buckets” (really, origami envelopes) for our desks into which notes of encouragement can be delivered. It’s been exciting to see students become aware of others and to find ways to acknowledge them through words of encouragement.

For Laetitia and Mina, seeing and responding to the needs of others, whether physical or emotional, is part of their everyday lives. They live life in the overflow, filling buckets as they go. We are grateful for their initiaitve in helping us all experience the joy of giving. May many buckets be filled over the next few weeks.

*Stay tuned for an upcoming interview with Mina and Laetitia.

For now, enjoy a reading of Have You Filled  a Bucket Today? by the author, Carol McCloud.
