Essay Essentials: Elaboration and Evidence

Once you have determined what you want to write about (topic), stated your belief about it (thesis), and hooked your reader, it is time to expand on your claim and lay out evidence for what you believe. This is done in the body paragraphs – each paragraph focusing on one reason why you believe what you believe.

The body paragraphs are your opportunity to paint pictures for your readers, through mini stories, examples, or descriptions, that ultimately convince them that your thesis is valid.
